More details

It is a member of the Wuyi tea family of teas. Wuyi is the mountain area producing a large family of tea in South-East China). This tea is also known as Zheng Shan Souchong. Zheng Shan means "Original Mountain" and only tea leaves picked from Wuyi harvest area can be called as "Zheng Shan". Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong (Lapsang Souchong) used pine wood or pine charcoal from Tongmu kuan in Wuyi mountain as materials. Because black tea has a strong capability of absorption, while pine charcoal will release plenty of smoke when burning. . Lapsang Souchong sometimes gets a bad rep for being brashly smoky, but really fine examples aren't like that at all. Lapsang Souchong is very approachable: clean and slightly cool smokiness in the aroma, like menthol. Sweet, refreshing smoky flavor, crisp and edgy. Golden-coppery color in the cup; the mark of a Lapsang that hasn't been smoked to a jerky. Sweet pine flavor, lightly evaporating finish. It's amazing all the dimensions of 'smoky' you can experience in one, very well made cup of fine Lapsang Souchong.
